The Zizzers opened the 2016 by participating in the Marshfield/Lebanon Kickoff Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Zizzers came away with two victories and one loss.

On Friday, the Zizzers faced the Fair Grove Eagles. The Zizzers opened the scoring in the 20th minute as Lucas Shertz crossed a ball to Logan Jeffery who found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. In the 27th minute, Seth Stiles sent a ball in front of the goal that Michael Howell knocked in to give the Zizzers a 2-0 lead. That’s how the score would be at halftime. The Eagles wasted little time getting back in the game. In just the 2nd minute of the half, they cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by #2 on a rebound after Zerke Johnson mad a good save on the initial shot. In the 8th minute of the half, Logan Jeffery played a free kick to Seth Stiles. Stiles shot found the net to make the score 3-1. The Eagles got the goal right back as #2 scored his second goal in the 10th minute of the half to cut the Zizzers lead to 3-2. That would be all of the scoring and the Zizzers opened 2016 with the win.

The Zizzers then face the Marshfield Bluejays just 30 minutes after the first game ended. Despite the quiick turn around, the Zizzers fought hard. The game was scoreless until the 26th minute. Seth Stiles sent a corner kick to the back post where Sean Allen headed it in to give the Zizzers a 1-0 lead. The Bluejays answered just two minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. The game would stay 1-1 until the 17th minute of the second half. Marshfield took a 2-1 lead. The Zizzers tried to push forward to tie the game, but were unable to do so. the Bluejays kept pushing toward goal and that resulted in an own goal scored by the Zizzers as they tried to clear a ball and it ended up in the net giving Marshfield a 3-1 lead. That would be the final score as the Zizzers record stood at 1-1.

Fair Grove defeated MArshfield in the third game of the night which gave them 4 points in the tournament standings. Marshfield ant the Zizzers each had 3 points. The tiebreaker was head to head results giving Marshfield the edge. This meant that the Zizzers would play in the 5th Place game on Saturday against Osage.

In the 5th Place game, the Zizzers jumped out to an early lead. In the 2nd minute, Seth Stiles senta corner kick into the box where Trey Cressman headed it in. Four minutes later Cressman found Michael Howell who sent a shot over the keeper to give the Zizzers a 2-0 lead. A bad pass backward lead to an Osage goal in the 9th minute, cutting the lead to 2-1. In the 25th minute, Logan Jefferey scored to give the Zizzers a 3-1 lead. Jeffery picked up his second goal of the game in the 18th minute of the second half on an assist from Tyler Ford. Jefferey picked up an assist in the 27th minute as his shot bounced off the post and Ty Murray knocked in the rebound. Jefferey got his third goal in the 31st minute, this one on an assist from Trey Cressman to make the score 6-1. Osage rounded out the scoring less than a minute later, picking up a goal on a hard shot from 15 yards out by #22.

Overall it was a good tournament for the Zizzers. We picked up two wins and got contributions from a number of players. The experience should help us as the season goes along. Next up will be games against Greenwood on Monday, August 29th at home. Jv will play a half beginning at 5:00pm, followed by the Varsity game.
