The Zizzers played the host Greenwood Bluejays in the first round of the Greenwood Classic on Saturday. Although the Zizzers seemed to control a little more of the play throughout the game and had an advantage in shots, the Bluejays came out on top 1-0 in overtime. In the first minute of overtime, the Zizzers earned a penalty kick, but the shot was saved by the Greenwood keeper. In the 8th minute of overtime, Greenwood earned a penalty kick and scored. The loss sent the Zizzers to the Third Place Game against College Heights.

Against College Heights, the Zizzers gave up two goals  in the first sixteen minutes. The first goal came because of a lack of communication between a Zizzer back and goalkeeper. The second goal came because the Zizzers didn’t mark up quickly on a free kick. From there, the Zizzers played hard and tried to get back in the game with shot after shot. One shot hit the crossbar and another hit the post. Several other shots just missed the goal. Finally with about ten minutes left in the game, Layne Sporleder took a pass from Tyler Ford and scored to cut the lead to 2-1. But that would be as close as the Zizers would get in this one. College Heights won 2-1.

Next up are games on Tuesday, September 22 at Greenwood. Varsity will start at 5:00pm.
