The 11th Annual Lady Zizzer Soccer Classic went well this weekend. West Plains hosted seven other schools in an entertaining tournament. On Friday night, there were four games, all decided by one goal. In the opening games, West Plains fell to Affton 2-1 and Ozark defeated Mtn. View – Liberty 4-3 in Overtime. In the West Plains game, the girls played hard, but gave up a penalty kick early in the game. Affton scored a second goal in the first half. The Lady Zizzers played better in the second half, marking up better and playing more as a team. Megan Biggers scored the Lady Zizzers goal off of a free kick in the second half. In the late games on Friday, Moberly edged Waynesville 3-2 and Hannibal slipped by Valley View 2-1.

On Saturday morning, Valley View beat West Plains 8-1. The game was 2-0 at halftime, but Valley View pulled away in the second half. Megan Biggers scored for the Lady Zizzers off of a free kick. In the second half, our team defense wasn’t where it needed to be. We allowed too many open shots. In the other early game, Mtn. View – Liberty edged Waynesville 6-5. In the Semifinals, Hannibal beat Affton 4-0 and Ozark got past Moberly 1-0 on a goal with 5 seconds left in the game.

The 7th Place game saw Waynesville down West Plains 10-0. There were times where we did some good things, but we could string enough of them together. We had some ups and downs in this one. We definitely saw some positives over the weekend and we are getting better as a team. In the 5th Place game, Valley View beat Mtn. View – Liberty3-2. In the 3rd Place game, Moberly got a goal early in the second half to slip past Affton 1-0. In the Championship game, Hannibal topped Ozark 5-0.

Thanks to all the JV girls who worked to help make the tournament successful! We appreciate the support of the parents and school staff and the other teams who came so far to participate.
