Taking on the Branson Pirates on a beautiful Friday afternoon, the Zizzers came away with a 2-0 victory to improve their record to 10-11. Branson was able to control things the first couple of minutes, but then the Zizzers came at them hard. In the 5th minute, Colton Hensley’s pass found Brodie Bender racing toward goal. Bender ripped a shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later, Jon Hanshaw sent a ball up to Logan Johnson. Johnson touched it over to Colton Hensley who fired a shot into the net for a 2-0 lead. Despite some other chances, the Zizzers wouldn’t score again in the half.
In the second half, the Zizzers didn’t do some of the little things that they did in the first half and that made things a little more difficult for them.They still created scoring chances, but they weren’t able to finish them. Defensively, things were pretty good for most of the game. The communication was good and that made a difference.
In the JV game, Branson jumped on the Zizzers early, getting a goal in the first minute of play after the Zizzers failed to clear a ball out of the box. The Zizzers were awarded a Penalty Kick after a foul in the box. The Branson keeper made the save, but was whistled for moving off his line too early. The Zizzers retook the kid and again the keeper made the save. The Pirates would get a second goal in the 22nd minute, this time scoring aon a breakaway as the Zizzer defense was caught flat.
In the second half, Branson scored in the 18th minute as the Zizzers failed to clear a corner kick and allowed a player to come into the box without any defenders near him. The Final score was Branson 3 and West Plains 0. The Zizzers return to action on Tuesday at home against the Ozark Tigers. That will be the final match of the regular season for the Zizzers. JV will start at 5:00pm
