It was Senior Night on Friday as the Zizzers faced the Central Bulldogs. The Zizzers played a somewhat sluggish first half. Even though they weren’t playing their best, West Plains had the better of the play and created some offensive chances. Defensively, the Zizzers limited the Bulldogs scoring chances. At halftime the score would be 0-0. During the intermission, the Zizzers recognized their 8 Seniors (Brodie Bender, Justin Casillas, Zack Dixon, Jon Hanshaw, Colton Hensley, Logan Huff, Ethan Hunt, and Daniel Pleshka) and their parents.
In the second half, the Zizzers played more aggressively and had a little better movement off the ball. Despite some improved play, finding the net wasn’t easy. Finally, in the 16th minute of the half, Brodie Bender fed the ball to Logan Johnson. Johnson redirected it into the goal to give the Zizzers a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, Colton Hensley sent a ball to a streaking Johnson who touched the ball around the onrushing keeper and then calmly sent a shot into the open goal. The Zizzers had a few other chances, but wouldn’t find the net again on this night. The improved play offensively coincided with some improved play defensively. Th Bulldogs didn’t have many chances to score in the second half. Logan Huff was rewarded with the shutout in goal.
The win brings the Zizzers record to 9-10 on the season. Next up for the Zizzers will be games at Kickapoo on Tuesday. The JV game will begin at 5:00pm, followed by the Varsity game.
