The Zizzers traveled to Poplar Bluff on Thursday and came back with a pair of wins. In the Varsity game, the Zizzers defeated the Mules 5-1. West Plains opened the scoring in the 10th minute as Trevor Cressman served a ball in front of the goal where Logan Johnson got a head on it and knocked it past the Mules keeper for a 1-0 lead. Despite some good ball movement, the Zizzers wouldn’t score again in the first half. In the second half, Brodie Bender raced down the right side with the ball in the 7th minute. Bender crossed the ball into the box to Justin Casillas. Casillas sent the ball wide to Colton Hensley who calmly slotted the ball into the net for a 2-0 lead. In the 16th minute, Logan Johnson fed the ball to Brodie Bender, who ripped a shot from 18 yards into the corner of the net. Three minutes later, Johnson scored is second of the game on an assist from Tyler Collins to make it 4-0. In the 30th minute. Ethan Hunt’s struck a free kick perfectly, placing it in the far corner for a 5-0 lead. The Mules would score on a long blast with about 5 minutes to play to make the final score 5-1. Logan huff played well in goal, making several key saves. Defensively the Zizzers played one of their better games in a while. Offensively, West Plains was able to possess the ball a little more than they have in recent games and it paid off with good scoring chances. Nice job all the way around!
In the JV game, Poplar Bluff had a couple of good chances to score early, but from there the Zizzers started to take control. After a scoreless first half, the Zizzers got on the board in the 7th minute of the second half. The Mules were whistled for a foul inside the 18-yard box. Shane York placed the Penalty Kick just inside the post for what proved to be the only goal of the game. The Zizzers played better defensively, getting in better position early. They also were able to move the ball well at times. Nick Polston earned the shutout in goal. Nice job boys!
Next up will be a home game on Friday against Central. It will be a Varsity game only, starting at 5:00pm. It will also be Senior Night. The Zizzers 8 Seniors and their parents will be honored at halftime.
