Early mistakes proved costly in the Zizzers match against the Parkview Vikings. In the first minute of play, the Zizzers tried to force a pass and ended up turning the ball over in their own end. The Vikings moved toward goal. Impatience on defense from the Zizzers allowed the Vikings’ player to shoot into the net for a 1-0 lead. In the 7th minute, the Vikings got in behind the Zizzer defense and raced in on goal, finding the net with the shot. 2-0 Vikings. The Vikings struck again in the 10th minute, the goal coming on another breakaway. The Vikings would pick up a a fourth goal in the 29th minute to make it 4-0 at halftime.
Despite the fact that they trailed on the scoreboard, the Zizzers actually had the better of the play in the first half. That continued in the second half. Early in the half, the Zizzers were awarded a penalty kick. The Zizzers’s shot had the goalkeeper beat, but it hit off the crossbar and bounced out. In the 11th minute, Brodie Bender received a nice pass from Joey Block and then fired a shot in the goal to cut the lead to 4-1. Despite some good opportunities, the Zizzers weren’t able to get anything else on the scoreboard. The Zizzers played better defensively in the second half and had the better of the run of play.
In the JV game, Parkview prevailed 2-0. Parkview scored both goals in the first half (22nd minute and 34th mminute. The Zizzers played better in the second half, moving the ball a little better than they had in the first half.
Next up for the Zizzers will be games at Hillcrest on Thursday. The Varsity will play at 4:00pm with the JV game to follow.
