The Glendale Falcons shutout the West Plains Zizzers in Ozark Conference soccer action Monday night. In a first half that was fairly even in play, the Falcons were the team that was able to capitalize on it’s scoring chances. Glendale’s first goal came in the 13th minute on a header off a corner kick. The Falcons went up 2-0 in the 24th minute as the Zizzers got caught out of position defensively, letting the Falcons come through the center of the field before hitting the net with a shot. In the 32nd minute, the Falcons again scored off a corner kick. This time it was a one-touch shot from near the edge of the 18-yard box.

In the second half, the Zizzers didn’t move the ball as well. Playing too direct limited some opportunities and gave Glendale ample opportunity to go on the offensive. The Falcons added 4 goals in the second half scoring in the 50th, 62nd, 66th, and 80th minutes. The Zizzers had a few chances in the second half offensively, but they couldn’t put the ball in the net. The Zizzers struggled with movement off the ball, positioning defensively, and marking players around the 18-yard box.

In the JV march, Glendale defeated the Zizzers 10-0. The Falcons scored 5 goals in each half for the win. The Zizzers were lacking in communication which made working together difficult. We have to improve the communication and the defensive positioning,, as well as moving together offensively.

The Zizzers get a little rest now. The next games will be October 4th at home against the Parkview Vikings.
