On a damp Thursday evening, the Logan-Rogersville Wildcats came to West Plains to face the Zizzers in non-conference soccer action. The Zizzers came out strong and had the better of play for the first 7 or 8 minutes. In the ninth minute, the Wildcats made there first venture deep into the Zizzers defensive end. The Wildcats capitalized with a shot into the back of the net. In the 23rd minute, Logan-Rogersville ventured deep into the Zizzers end again. The Wildcats capitalized again, taking a 2-0 lead. The Zizzers got a goal back in the 29th minute. Logan Johnson fed the ball to Ethan Hunt who redirected the ball past the Wildcats keeper to cut the lead to 2-1.
In the second half, the Zizzers picked up their play. The effort was rewarded in the 56th minute. This time it was Colton Hensley who found Ethan Hunt going to goal. Hunt’s shot found the net again, drawing the Zizzers level at 2-2. In the 65th minute, Joey Block’s pass found a streaking Logan Johnson. Johnson got in behind the defense and slid a shot into the net for a 3-2 lead. That’s how the game would end. It wasn’t the prettiest game we have played this year, but to battle back from two goals down to pull out the victory was great. We had a good effort and were rewarded for it. Nice job boys!
In the JV game, the Zizzers shutout Logan-Rogersville 2-0. In the 6th minute, the Zizzers were awarded a free kick deep in the Wildcats end. Nick Smith sent the kick into the middle of the box where Shane York headed it in for a 1-0 lead. In the 15th minute, Dylan Tribble found Nick Smith near the edge of the box. Smith sent a shot past the keeper and into the goal for a 2-0 lead. The Zizzers continued to put presssure on for the rest of the half.
In the second half, the Zizzers seemed to spend more time defending as the Wildcats tried to fight their way back into the game. Defensively the Zizzers bent, but didn’t break. The shutout was shared by Roan Brown and Shane York. It was a good effort for the JV tonight. Nice job boys!
Next up for the Varsity is the Greenwood Classic on Saturday. The Zizzers face the host Greenwood Bluejays at 9:00am. Then the Zizzers will face either Marshall or Central. The losers in the first round will play in the 3rd place game at 1:00pm. The Winners will play for the championship at 2:30pm. The Marshall Owls are coached by former Zizzer Soccer Standout, Josh Posegate. Last season, Posegate led the Owls to the Class 2 Final Four.
