The Zizzers defeated Marshfield 2-0 in a hard fought match on Monday night. Both teams had chances to score as they game went back and forth. Finally, in the 30th minute, Colton Hensley found Logan Johnson in the middle of the field. Johnson got through a couple defenders and ripped a shot just inside the left post for a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, Johnson would be the guy setting up the goal. Taking the ball down the right side, Johnson crossed the ball in front of the goal where Dillon Biggers redirected it into the net to make it 2-0.
The second half saw action on both ends, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. The game would end in favor of the Zizzers 2-0. It was a good effort for the Zizzers. There was some good ball movement, good communication, and good cover when people made mistakes defensively.
In the JV game, the Zizzers came out on top 2-1. The win is the first of the season for the JV. Roan Brown opened the scoring for the Zizzers in the 28th minute. Marshfield wasted little time in getting the goal back. The Bluejays drew level in the 30th minute. Twenty minutes into the second half, Marshfield was whistled for a foul in the box that resulted in a penalty kick for the Zizzers. Nick Smith took the penalty kick and scored as the ball hit off the diving keeper’s hands and into the goal. The Zizzers played well defensively to ensure the victory.
Nice job all the way around for both teams tonight. Next up are games at Home against Rolla on Tuesday. JV starts at 5:00pm with the Varsity to follow.
