I wanted to give some information on one of our speakers from our Kicking Cancer activities this Spring. Mindy Lahey Hughston spoke to the Lady Zizzers and Lady Lakers on April 20 (pictured). Mindy talked about her battles with cancer. Yesterday I received an email with some new information on Mindy.
Good afternoon Zizzer family. I received information today in regard to the condition of former Zizzer standout Mindy Lahey. Mindy, once again, is in a fight for her life. She is again battling cancer – this time in the form of a fast growing tumor behind her eye. In addition to the tumor she has fluid around her lungs as well, which is causing problems also. They are traveling to Columbia to see if she can be treated using radiation with the hope of shrinking the tumor. The radiation will cause blindness, but will hopefully prolong her life.
Mindy wants desperately to take her family to Disney World while she is able. The trip is planned for next week. However, as you can imagine, the funds are not available for this trip due to the extreme amount of medical bills. Therefore, a fund for Mindy and her family has been established at Community First Banking Company in support of Mindy and her family. Please support this effort in whatever way you can.
Mindy is a fighter and we wish her the best in her battle. If you are able to help in this effort, I know it will be greatly appreciated.
Mindy is the sister of former Lady Zizzer soccer player, Amanda Lahey-Holmes, and is married to former Zizzer soccer player Derek Hughston.
