Lady Zizzers Season Ends

The Lady Zizzers soccer season ended on Tuesday at the hands of the Marshfield Lady Jays. It was a game that saw both teams create a number of chances, but it was Marshfield who was able to capitalize. At the 18:05 mark, Kylea Ryser knocked in a rebound to give Marshfield a 1-0 lead. Tasha Ugbah took a pass from Katie Shannon and fired a shot into the net to tie the score at 20:46. Then just about a minute later, West Plains was whistled for a foul at the edge of the 18-yard box and Marshfield was awarded a Penalty Kick. Danielle Coffman converted the kick to give Marshfield a 2-1 lead. Marshfield would add another goal at 36:04. This time Coffman made a back side run to finish off a cross.

In the second half, West Plains made a couple of changes looking to create more offensive chances. It paid off Megan Lowe sent Tasha Ugbah in on goal. Ugbah’s shot found the net at the 52:23 mark. Despite chances to tie the score, that would be as close as the Lady Zizzers would get. Marshfield would get a goal from McArthur at 60:27 after Sammi Phegley had knocked away a crossing attempt, McArthur put the ball in the net. McArthur would finish the scoring at 68:37. West Plains made a few more good runs at goal, but Marshfield’s Keeper made a few nice plays to deny them.

West Plains did a lot of good things in the match, creating more offensive chances than in any game this season. It just wasn’t enough on this night. Marshfield was able to capitalize on more of their chances and came away with a well deserved, hard fought win. The season ends for West Plains with a record of 8-13. We made a lot of progress throughout the season and the girls can be proud of their efforts and what they accomplished. We will miss the Seniors – Ashley Harris, Megan Lowe, Ashley Martin, Katie Shannon, Kelly Smith, Tiana Wong, Bre Wright, and our exchange students – Amy Cho and Meret Keller. Thank you girls for all you have given to the program.

Marshfield advances to the District Semifinal on Thursday where they will face #1 seed Harrisonville. Bolivar and Warrensburg will face off in the other semifinal.
