The Lady Zizzers traveled to Poplar Bluff on Tuesday for games against the Lady Mules. In the Varsity game, Poplar Bluff came out on top 3-0.
The Lady Zizzers started the game strong, moving the ball and created some scoring chances, but couldn’t find the net. About midway through the half, the momentum shifted to Poplar Bluff. The Lady Mules opened the scoring in the 29th minute as Allie Pattillo sent Marissa Burroughs in behind the defense where she sent a ball past Sammi Phegley for a 1-0 lead.
In the 39th minute, Ciera Baker took a hard shot from near the edge of the box. Phegley deflected the shot up. The ball came down and crossed the goalline as Phegley dove to recover it. 2-0 Poplar Bluff. That would be the halftime score.
In the second half, Poplar Bluff had a distinct advantage in possession and shots on goal. The Lady Mules added to their lead in the 9th minute as Allie Pattillo rocketed a shot inside the post from 20 yards out. Sammi Phegley and the Lady Zizzer defense made a few nice saves to keep the score at 3-0.
In JV action, Poplar Bluff defeated West Plains 1-0. It was a game that was back and forth for the first 15 or 20 minutes. Then the Lady Zizzers started slowing down. The Poplar Bluf goal came as a the result of a turnover off a Lady Zizzer goal kick. Poplar Bluff intercepted the ball, dribbled into the box and sent a shot past keeper Saralyn Glascock. That would be the only score of the game.
The Lady Zizzer Varsity falls to 1-4-0 on the season while the JV falls to 0-2-0. Next up for the Varity will be a game at Home against Greenwood on Thursday. Game time is 5:00pm.
