The Lady Goblins of Harrison, Ar came to town Wednesday for a non-conference soccer match. It was a great day for soccer with just a little breeze. The Lady Goblins had the better of the play in the first half and managed a 6 to 1 advantage in shots on goal. The Lady Zizzers did a good job defensively and appeared headed to halftime tied 0-0. But with 1 minute 5 seconds left in the first half, Lady Goblin Laura Shirley found a little space inside the box and fired a shot over Sammi Phegley and just under the crossbar to give Harrison a 1-0 lead.

Harrison came out stronger to start the second half and that effort led to a goal in the 7th minute. The Lady Goblins sent a corner kick into the box where the Lady Zizzers failed to clear it, The ball bounced around a couple of times before Sami Hennessy knocked it in to make the score 2-0. In the 36th minute, a Lady Goblin broke into the box and fired a shot at goal. Sammi Phegely made a great diving save, but Chandler Rae was there to put the rebound in the back of the net. The Lady Zizzers best offensive moment of the game came after a string of passes sent Carly Shannon in on goal. Carly’s shot was headed toward the far post, but ? made a nice save. West Plains managed to avoid being shutout when Tasha Ugbah picked up a ball and got in behind the Lady goblins defense and sent a shot past the keeper with a bout 15 seconds left in the game. Final score Harrison 3 West Plains 1. The Lady Zizzers record falls to 1-2-0 on the season.

West Plains played well defensively, except for a few break downs. Offensively, there were some great moments, but we need better movement and vision. There is still a long way to go in the season, so we have time to regroup and make improvements. Next up, the JV and Varsity will travel to Nixa on Thursday (March 25) to take on the Eagles. The JV game is scheduled to kickoff at 4:30pm with the Varsity game to follow.
