The Parkview Vikings came to town Tuesday night for an Ozark Conference Match. The Zizzers came out strong and played a great first half, but found themselves trailing 1-0. The Vikings goal came on a Penalty Kick taken by Brian Otradovec in the 9th minute following a foul in the box by the Zizzers. Defensively, West Plains played together, keeping good spacing and communicating effectively. Offensively, the Zizzers moved the ball and created some chances, including a couple of shots by Brodie bender.
In the second half, the Vikings were able to do what they hadn’t been able to do in the first half, Get Brian otradovec loose behind the Zizzer defense. In the 43rd minute, a Viking pass sent Otradovec in on on one with a Zizzer defender. Otradovec blew past the defender and fired a shot into the back of the net. A minute later, another Viking pass sent Otradovec in alone against Zizzer Keeper Louis Jones with the same result and the Vikings had a 3-0 lead. The Vikings added to their lead in the 59th minute when Dane knapp’s shot went off the outstretched hands of Louis Jones and into the goal. Jared Moore would finish the scoring in the 67th minute with a shot just inside the near post. The Zizzers again moved the ball, but couldn’t create the dangerous chances that they would have liked. Overall it was a pretty good game for the Zizzers.
In JV action, Parkview came out victorious by the score of 4-0. All four Parkview goals were scored by Pedro Pitonez. The goals came in the 6th, 29th, 48th, and 56th minutes. The Zizzers played well at times, but need more consistency in their effort. The Zizzers best chance to score came in the second half when Emilio Navarrete fired a shot from just outside the 18-yard box that deflected off Nick King and hit the top of the crossbar before going out of bounds.
Next up for both teams will be games at Hillcrest on Thursday. Varsity starts at 4:00pm with JV to follow. Steve ‘Ole’ Olson of SGFsoccer.com is scheduled to be out covering the game although the weather forecast doesn’t look promising.
