West Plains Zizzer Soccer

Boys soccer practice for the 2009 Season will begin on August 10. There will be two practices a day for the first week. Practice times will be 8:00-10:00am and 6:00-8:00pm. Players are expected to be at all practices. In order to practice, players must have a current physical on file with insurance information and parent signatures. Players will need to bring tennis shoes, soccer cleats, shinguards, and water bottle to every practice.

Free Physicals for West Plains students will be given starting at 5:00pm on Thursday, July 30 at OMC’s Shaw Building on Kentucky Avenue. The physicals will be given by local physicians in cooperation with OMC.

The 4th Annual Zizzer Soccer Alumni Game was won by the Red Team in a Penalty Kick Shootout. After playing to a 5-5 tie, the Red Team won the shootout 3-1 to claim the victory. The first half of play was a close, well played contest with some good defending. The Red Team was up 2-0 at the half. Fitness or lack thereof played a huge role in the second half. It quickly turned into a game of kick and chase. Forwards outnumbered defenders nearly two to one and the midfield became nonexistent. I’m not sure who scored all the goals, but Ryan White’s PK in the shootout gave the Red Team and insurmountable lead and the victory.

A good time was had by all the fans and participants and a little money was raised for the WPSA. The 4th Annual Zizzer Soccer Alumni Game will be held at the West Plains Soccer Association Soccer Park on Saturday, July 18. We will start handing out uniforms about 5:00pm. All former Zizzer and Lady Zizzer Soccer players are encouraged to participate. If you can’t play, come out and watch.

The event is a fundraiser for the West Plains Soccer Association. In the past, the WPSA has had barbecued hotdogs and hamburgers and drinks for sale. Proceeds from the event will help the WPSA with building projects. Current projects include a new concession stand with pavillion and and indoor soccer building. All donations are welcome.
