The Lady Zizzer JV Soccer Team defeated Waynesville 1-0 on Tuesday, while the Varsity lost to Waynesville 2-0. The JV played a good game as both teams went back and forth. West Plains seemed to play a little better in the second half, being more aggressive. That paid off in the 64th minute of play as Chelsea Kenslow scored her first goal of the season. West Plains made the lead hold up over the last 6 minutes to earn their second win of the season.
In the Varsity game, it was again a back and forth game as both teams worked hard break through the other’s defense. In the 36th minute, West Plains was whistled for a foul in the box resulting in a Penalty Kick for Waynesville. Erica Combs stepped up and sent a shot into the net for a 1-0 lead. Despite chances by both teams, the score would remain 1-0 until the 37th minute of the second half. Combs found Jesslyn Clark on a well timed run into the middle of the box that left her one on one with Lady Zizzer Keeper Sammi Phegley. Clark put her shot past Phegley to give the Tigers some breathing room.
Both games tonight were very competitive and good games to watch. It was nice to see the JV girls get a win. The Varsity showed a number of good things including a much improved effort in winning balls out of the air and trying to connect passes. Next up for both teams will be a trip to Branson on Thursday.
