Day one of the 6th Annual Lady Zizzer Soccer Classic was a good one. The first game kicked off at the soccer field at 4:00pm between the Sikeston Bulldogs and Valley View Blazers. Sikeston got on the board first, but it took awhile. It would be Kristin King receiving the ball in the middle of the box from a pass by Abbi Keefer. King sent a nice shot into the back of the net from 15 yards out. 1-0 Sikeston. In the second half Keyonna Blissett added an insurance goal with an assist by Kristin King. 2-0 would be the final score.
At the football field, the Parkview Vikings faced off against the Cape Central Tigers in the first soccer match held at Zizzer Stadium. The scoreboard wasn’t working so I don’t have times for the goals. Parkview opened the scoring with a goal from Shelby Stewart. Jessica Maerz would extend the lead to 2-0. Cape Central would cut the Vikings lead in half on a goal by Ashley Butner. I believe the halftime score was 2-1. Parkview would score two quick goals in the half. The first by Kelsey Loderhose and the second by Jessica Maerz. The Final score was 4-1 in favor of Parkview.
The second game on the soccer field featured the Moberly Spartans and the Waynesville Tigers. Moberly scored what would prove to be the game winner in 6th minute. Shawn Beard got the goal on an assist from Kelly Ross. Kelli Westhues would make it 2-0 in the 23rd minute. Allie Jorgensen rounded out the first half scoring with a goal in the 37th minute. Kelly Ross would net a pair of goals to start the half. Her first goal came in the 44th minute and her second in the 49th minute. Shaylyn Cooksey scored on an assist from Tierney Seifert in the 52nd minute. The final goal of the game came from Amy Hudson in the 61st minute. The final score 7-0 Moberly.
Game 2 on the football field was a Homecoming of sorts. Former Lady Zizzer Soccer Player, Julie Long brought her Nettleton Raiders to face the Liberty Eagles. I believe the halftime score was 0-0. The only goal of the game would be scored by Janelle Gaddy, giving the Eagles the 1-0 victory.
The final game of the evening saw the Lady Zizzers take on the Affton Cougars. Affton ‘s Katie Aubuchon scored in the 7th minute after making a late run into the box. That’s how things would stand at halftime. The Lady Zizzers played hard and did a pretty good job defensively. Offensively, We were able to move the ball a little bit, but couldn’t get anything dangerous around the goal. In the second half, Katy McAllister made it 2-0 in the 57th minute of play. The Lady Zizzers continued playing well and were trying to do some good things offensively. Rachel Choler headed a ball in off a nice cross in the 71st minute. Just about a minute later, Kelsey Gaia sent a shot into the far side of the net to make it 4-0. That’s how it would end. The girls played a good game and never backed down. Up next for West Plains will be a 10:30am game against Valley View at the Football Field.
