The West Plains Zizzer Soccer Team got exactly what it needed when they traveled to Camdenton, an opportunity to play against somebody else. The result wasn’t what we would have liked to have seen, but for a team short on experience, it was a step in the right direction. The teams were scoreless until the 17th minute. Drew Whitney got the Lakers on the board after working his way through the Zizzer defense. Camdenton added to their lead just one minute later.
In the 24th minute Camdenton struck again and then then added two more in the 25th minute just 30 seconds apart. The second of those coming on a Penalty Kick after the Zizzers were called for a trip in the Penalty Box. The Lakers sixth goal of the game came in the 29th minute as a shot deflected off a Zizzer defender and into the goal.
The second half was a better performance for the Zizzers. They came out more focused and playing as a team. The lone Laker goal of the half came in the 12th minute on a long shot outside the box. Stronger play in the second half on both the defensive and offensive sides of the ball was nice to see. The Zizzers were rewarded for the effort in the 37th minute of the half as Klay Norman played a nice ball to Anthony Holt, whose pass found Jason McAllister open on the backside. McAllister’s shot from near the edge of the box went just past the outstretched arms of the keeper and inside the back post for his first Varsity Goal. The game ended 7-1 in favor of the Lakers. The Zizzers will look to improve on their second half effort as they travel to Nixa on Thursday.
In JV action, Camdenton defeated the Zizzers 9-0. Camdenton jumped out to an early lead scoring 4 goals in the first 5 minutes of the game. They would add two more before the half for a 6-0 lead. West Plains played better as the game went along, but couldn’t get on the scoreboard. Camdenton added three more goals in the second half for the final margin of victory. The young West Plains team is still trying to find their spots and are looking to improve each time out.
