Notre Dame 4 – West Plains 0
The Lady Zizzers came out ready to play against their St. Louis opponent. Despite the 4-0 final score, the Lady Zizzers played very well, their best overall performance of the season. Notre Dame got their first goal in the 12th minute. Kristin Wahl’s pass sent Ashley Lauer streaking toward goal on the right side. With a defender giving chase, Lauer ripped a shot that beat Lady Zizzer Keeper, Jamie Brassfield, to the near post. West Plains, playing well as a unit defensively, kept Notre Dame from scoring again until the 29th minute. This time Robyn Meesey found Michelle Auer who gave the Rebels a 2-0 lead. That same combination netted the third goal for Notre Dame just 4 minutes later. A little bad luck for West Plains added to the score in the 34th minute. Brigette Bollwerk found Hannah Atkinson. Atkinson’s shot was knocked into the goal by a West Plains defender trying to clear the ball out of danger.

There would be no goals scored in the second half and the final would be 4-0 Notre Dame. Even though they weren’t able to get on the scoreboard, West Plains did move the ball down the field at times. Having success moving the ball against a quality opponent such as Notre Dame should boost the confidence of the team. The key for West Plains was the team play. It was the best the girls have played together and hopefully a sign of what’s to come in the remaining weeks.
