Tuesday night the Lady Zizzers traveled to Springfield to face the Glendale Lady Falcons on the turf at JFK Stadium. Glendale got on the board early. The first goal coming in the 5th minute. West Plains was able to keep the score at 1-0 until the 27th minute. This time a ball was floated over the head of Goalkeeper Jamie Brassfield for a 2-0 Glendale lead.
Glendale came out strong in the second half. The Lady Falcons speed and ball movement caused West Plains problems. Glendale added to their lead about 30 seconds into the half on a shot to the near post to make it 3-0. They made the score 4-0 in the 19th minute of the half. They added 2 more goals, one in the 23rd minute (on a Penalty Kick) and one in the 34th minute for a final score of 6-0.
The Lady Zizzers struggles with communication and defensive postioning allowed the Lady Falcons to run free too often. There were times when the girls were able to connect some passes and get the ball down field, but were unable to create dangerous scoring opportunities. At times we did well defensively, but when we had breakdowns, Glendale capitalized. The loss drops West Plains’ record to 2-5 on the season and 0-3 in the Ozark Conference.
In JV action, Glendale also won 6-0. Glendale got on the board in the 3rd minute on a shot from 8 yards out. A missed penalty kick in the 12th minute kept the score 1-0. A minute later, Glendale scored on a rebound from 6 yards out after the initial shot hit the crossbar. The Lady Falcons added a third goal in the 24th minute.
In the second half, Glendale came out firing, getting goals in the 3rd, 5th, and 8th minutes. The Lady Zizzers struggled with the speed of the ball on the turf and working together as a team. They made some improvement in the second half.
