Skelly Gets Game Winner On Her Birthday

Skelly Gets Game Winner On Her Birthday

What a great birthday for Lady Zizzer Sophomore, Rachel Skelly. The Greenwood Lady Bluejays came to town for a non-conference game on Friday evening. Greenwood had the better of things as the game started, but West Plains started getting into more of a rhythm as the first half moved along. Then in the 33rd minute, Megan Walker played a ball forward for Skelly to run onto. Skelly got to the ball at the corner of the 18 yard box just a split second before the Greenwood goalkeeper. Her shot rolled past the keeper and just inside the post for a 1-0 lead.

The game would be back and forth, with both teams creating scoring chances. Despite the opportunities, neither team could find the back of the net. In the end, Skelly’s goal would stand as the game winner. What a great birthday present she gave to her team. It was a good team effort. With the victory, West Plains improves to 2-4. Greenwood evens their record at 1-1 on the season. The next game for the Lady Zizzers will be Tuesday against Glendale at Cooper Field # 2 in Springfield.
