The Lady Zizzers made the short trek to Mountain View on Friday night to take on the Liberty Eagles. The game was the first ever for the Liberty Eagles girls soccer team. Emma Ray opened the scoring for the Lady Zizzers in the 6th minute. Ray intercepted a goal kick by the Eagles, got past the keeper, and fired a shot into the open net. 1-0 Lady Zizzers. In the 18th minute, Dani Valade sent a cross in front of the box. Rachel Skelly raced in and knocked it across the goalline for a 2-0 lead. Mollie Plocher’s free kick in the 28th minute found a streaking Beth Kittle at the back post. Kittle redirected the ball into the goal with her body. It was 3-0 Lady zizzers at the half.
After a sloppy first half, West Plains came out much stronger to start the 2nd half. In the 4th minute of the half, Emma Ray picked up a loose ball off a corner kick and blasted a shot under the crossbar from 18 yards out. 4-0 Lady Zizzers. A minute later, Michelle Esterle dribbled into the box and ripped a shot from about 12 yards out that found the back of the net. It was 5-0 Lady Zizzers at that point. Megan Lowe notched her first goal when she kicked in a loose ball from a couple of yards out in the 26th minute. Rachel Skelly picked up her 2nd goal of the game in the 32nd minute when she beat the keeper to a loose ball and poked it past her from about 8 yards out to finish the scoring. The final score was 7-0 Lady Zizzers.
In the first half West Plains didn’t play together as well as they could have and were forcing things offensively. In the second half, the girls made some better decisions. They were also more aggressive going to the ball, especially in the air. It was nice to get that first win of the season and the girls had some fun as all 20 girls that made the trip saw some action.
With the win, the Lady Zizzers improve to 1-2-0 on the season. The next game is scheduled for 4:30pm at Ozark on Monday, March 31.
