Zizzer Senior Midfielder, Brice Hunt (Pictured this year against Quincy, IL), has decided to further his soccer career at Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama. Birmingham Southern is a school of about 1,400 students that competes at the NCAA Division III level and is a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Hunt was a 4-year Varsity Starter for the Zizzers, helping the team compile a record of 60-38-4, including a District Championship and 3rd Place finish in State his Junior year. During his 4 years, Brice played in 102 Games (a Team Record), scored 19 Goals (including 6 Game Winners) and added 25 Assists (3rd All-Time).

Brice has received numerous awards during his career:

At Birmingham Southern, Brice will play for Head Coach Preston Goldfarb. In 25 years at BSC (1983-2000 NAIA, 2001-2006 NCAA Div I, 2007 NCAA Div III), Goldfarb has compiled a 294-190-36 record. BSC finished 10-10-0 in 2007 while playing a schedule that included 7 games against NCAA Division I teams and games against nationally ranked Trinity (national runner-up after losing the Final on PKs) and Washington University in St. Louis.

Want to see Brice play next season? Hendrix College in Conway, AR is also a member of the SCAC and it looks like Birmingham will travel to Conway next Fall for their match. I think they will also be playing in Memphis. We’ll keep you posted.

I recently asked Brice a few questions about his college choice. Here is what he had to say:

Coach: How do you feel now that you have decided where you will be attending college?

Brice: I feel very good. Nothing to worry about.

Coach: Was it an easy decision for you?

Brice: Yes. The only hard part was making the commitment. I was a little nervous about that, but I had the decision made before I committed.

Coach: What was the biggest factor in your decision to attend Birmingham Southern?

Brice: They have a wonderful soccer program and good school.

Coach: What do you plan to major in?

Brice: Not sure. Maybe something science. I Don’t know.

Coach: Anything you can tell us about Birmingham Southern - the school in general or the soccer program?

Brice: Very friendly, wonderful campus. They are rated as one of the best liberal arts schools in the country. Lots of alumni in the soccer program.

Coach: What thoughts do you have about the recruiting process?

Brice: Birmingham recruiting was good. I didn’t like having to do much work in the recruiting process.

Coach: Anything else you’d like to say?

Brice: I am definitely going to miss the high school team, but I am looking forward to college.

We will miss you too Brice. We wish you the best of luck at Birmingham Southern.

Future Zizzers and Lady Zizzers

There are several future Zizzers and Lady Zizzers playing soccer in Springfield this winter. West Plains has 6 soccer teams playing indoor soccer at the Lake Country Soccer Complex. Last year several teams went up to play in the leagues and enjoyed the competition and learning experience. This year several more players are making the trips. This is good news for the WPHS Soccer Programs as these teams face teams from Springfield and other surrounding towns. It will only help to make the players better.

Good Luck to all the teams. Below are the teams and their age groups. You can check out their schedules and standings by going to the Lake Country website.
