After playing the first JV match of the season, the Zizzers only had 13 Varsity players available to take on the Mules. Thirteen proved to be a lucky number on this night. In the 8th minute of the game, Stuart Ziegler’s pass sent Justin Scicluna in on goal. Justin neatly tucked his shot into the corner for a 1-0 lead. The assists was Ziegler’s 21st of his career, setting a new Zizzer Team Record for Career Assists. Ziegler wouldn’t stop there. He would break two more records before the night was through. In the 16th minute, Ziegler was sent in on goal by Brice Hunt. Stuart calmly slid his shot past the Poplar Bluff Keeper for a 2-0 lead. Just three minutes later, Ziegler struck again, this time assisted by Nathan Moore. 3-0 Zizzers. About one minute later, Brice Hunt was on the receiving end of a Justin Scicluna pass that left him alone with the Mules Keeper. Hunt’s shot found the net and gave West Plains a 4-0 lead.
In the 21st minute, Stuart Ziegler’s free kick went through Keeper’s hands and into the path of an onrushing Chris Saner who ran the ball into the goal for a 5-0 lead. In the 40th minute Ziegler found Justin Scicluna with a pass toward goal. Scicluna ripped a shot into the upper 90 for a 6-0 halftime lead.
The 47th minute saw Ziegler record the hattrick off a Justin Scicluna assist. Poplar Bluff got on the board in the 53rd minute. Lack of communication in the back left a Mule player (#9) open for a shot inside the 18 yard box. The goal cut the Zizzers lead to 7-1. Klay Norman got a chance to move up into an attacking position from his usual outside back postion. In the 58th minute, Norman took a pass from Chris Saner and fired a 20 yard shot past the keeper for an 8-1 lead.
After playing the first 60 or so minutes in goal, Shane Corl got a chance to play in the field and he made the most of it. In the 69th minute, Stuart Ziegler sent a free kick into the box and Shane Corl headed it in for a 9-1 Zizzer lead. The assist by Ziegler was his fourth of the game, setting a new Zizzer Team Record for Assists in a Game, a mark he would add to three minutes later. This time Ziegler’s diagonal pass was right in the path of Corl, who was making a run toward goal. Corl’s shot from 22 yards out went past the keeper for his second goal of the game. Ziegler finished the game with 3 Goals and 5 Assists, for a total of 11 Points (2 Points for a goal, 1 Point for an assist), also a new Zizzer Team Record for Points in a Game. It was a good game for the team all the way around. Shane Corl and Chris Saner did a nice job in goal, the defense was better than it has been and the ball movement was very good. Nice work boys. West Plains improves to 4-2 on the season and will take on Waynesvill at home on Tuesday.
In JV action, Poplar Bluff defeated the Zizzers 3-0. The first Poplar Bluff goal came in the 18th minute of the game as a Corner Kick bounced in the box and was finished by the mules. The score would remain that way until the second half. Impatience on Defense allowed Mules players to break in on the Zizzer Keeper and score twice in the half.
Overall it was an okay first game for the JV who finaly got a chance to play a game. There was improvement in the second half. Ball movement was good at times, and they created some chances to score. The JV record falls to 0-1 on the season.

Congrats to Stuart and the Zs on the new records and victory. Even though it means my baby boy lost one of his records it’s a great accomplichment.
