On a cold, wet, miserable Tuesday evening, the Glendale Falcons came to town for an Ozark Conference match. The Lady Zizzers played well defensively for the first 20 minutes giving up just one goal. That goal came in the 14th minute when Lorin Opfer came flying through and headed in a corner kick by Jamie Bond. West Plains didn’t manage a lot of offense, but did keep Glendale from adding to their lead until the 23rd minute. This time Jeni Frewin came down the left side and buried a shot from 16 yards out. Lindsey Sprouse slid one past Lady Zizzer Keeper Jamie Brassfield in the 31st minute as Brassfield came sliding out to try to make the stop. Opfer would score again in the 32nd minute with a beautiful shot after making a hard run through the West Plains Defense on the right side of the box. The score would remain 4-0 at the halftime intermission.
In the second half, Glendale would add 2 more goals. The first coming in the 8th minute as Jeni Frewin added her second goal of the game. Four minutes later, Katie Brewer would pick up a goal on a shot from 15 yards out. Michell Esterle did a nice job of keeping Glendale off the board in the last 20 minutes as she replaced Jamie Brasfield in goal after Jamie injured her knee.
The Lady Zizzers were able to move the ball at times and even penetrated the Glendale defense on occassion, but they couldn’t get off any good shots at goal. With the loss, West Plains drops to 4-9-0 and 1-3-0 in the Ozark Conference. Glendale improves to 4-1-0 and 3-0-0 in the Ozark Conference.
In JV action, Glendale defeated West Plains 8-0. Glendale scored 3 Goals in the first half as the West Plains defense did a pretty good job against Glendale. Things weren’t as good in the second half as the Lady Zizzers couldn’t maintain the effort. Glendale added 5 goals in the second half to finish the scoring.
The Lady Zizzer Varsity will look to rebound on Thursday at Springfield Central. Game time is 4:00pm at Cooper Field #2.
