After a 3 hour delay becauseof lightning and rain and the need to keep the Class 2 games on the same schedule, the Zizzers kicked off against the Notre Dame Bulldogs at 8:45pm Friday night.

The Bulldogs got on th board in the 12 minute on a goal by Jack Wedemeier. Wedemeier pounced on a Zizzer mistake and found himself in alone on Zizzer Keeper Zach Auala. Wedemeier put away a shot from 10 yards out to give Notre Dame a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs had the better of play in the first half with the Zizzers mounting a few dangerous attacks. The score at the half was 1-0.

In the second half, the Zizzers had figured out the faster turf surface and picked up their play tremendously. West Plains carried the play at times and creatingseveral good scoring chances. The two best chacnes came just minutes apart. In the 14th minute Justin Scicluna was taken down in the box and was awarded a penalty kick. The resulting kick went just wide. Just two minutes later a ball was served into the box where Stuart Ziegler headed it across the goal to Michael Harrington, whose header went just wide.

Notre Dame would strike again with about 10 minutes left in the game. This time, Ty Williams got in one on one with a Zizzer defender and beat him and fired a shot from about 10 yards for a 2-0 Buldog lead. That’s how the game would end. Notre Dame will face St. Dominic in the State Final. and the Zizzers will take on Hannibal for third. St. Dominic beat Hannibal 3-1.

Despite the weather, the Zizzers are enjoying their first visit to the Final Four. Thanks to all the fans who stayed out to watch the game.
