On Saturday, the West Plains Zizzers defeated the Hannibal Pirates 3-0 to capture 3rd Place in the MSHSAA Class 2 State Tournament. West Plains controlled most of the play from the beginning and had several good scoring chances. A couple of the chances went just wide and a ouple more were stopped by the Hanniabl Keeper. In the second half, the Zizzers erupted for 3 goals and hit the post on two other occasions.
The Zizzers opened the scoring in the 9th minute of the second half and his intial shot hit the defender and then bounced behind the defender. Hunt took a couple of touches and then placed his shot past the Keeper for a 1-0 lead. In the 60th minute, Chris Saner dropped a pass to Justin Scicluna who fired it in for a 2-0 lead. In the 78th minute, Shane Corl played a ball over the Hannibal defense to an on-rushing Josh Sims whose shot from the right side found the back of the net. That completed the scoring. All 25 players got into the action and then recived 3rd Place medals after the game. Despite the bad weather on Friday Night, we all had a great time that we will never forget.
Stats for the game: West Plains 17 shots, 7 on goal. Hannibal 2 shots, 1 on goal. The Zizzers end the season with a record of 20-6-2 and their first State Trophy. Congratulations Boys on a great season. You all deserved it.
