Zizzers Advance To District Semifinals

Originally uploaded by Zizzer Soccer.

At Willard Saturday night, the West Plains Zizzers defeated the Monett Cubs 4-0 to advance to the Class 2 District 5 Semifinals on Monday night. After not playing for a week, the Zizzers appeared a little rusty in the first half of the game. They created some good scoring chances, but didn’t move the ball the way they would have liked. In the 21st minute the Zizzers got on the scoreboard. Klay Norman’s service went off the head of a Monett defender and right to Chris Saner on the backside. Saner’s left footed shot from 10 yards out went between a diving Monett goalkeeper and the post. 1-0 Zizzers. A short time later Zach Auala made a nice diving save on a Monett shot to keep the score 1-0. That was all of the scoring in the first half.

In the second half, West Plains came out strong, moving the ball well and creating opportunitites. In the 5th minute, Chris Saner’s shot to the far post was going just wide when Cody Townsend redirected it into the goal. 2-0 Zizzers. In the 13th minute Justin Scicluna made the score 3-0. After missing high on a free kick, Scicluna got the ball off the ensuing goal kick and fired a 45 yard shot over the goalkeeper. 3-0 Zizzers. Less than a minute later, Michael Harrington received a pass turned as the Monett defender fell and raced to the goal. Harrington slid a shot past the keeper. 4-0 Zizzers. The Monett keeper made several saves to keep the game close including one on a nice blast from Ethan Balough in the last 5 minutes of the match.

For the game, the Zizzers outshot Monett 31-5 (19-3 on goal). With the win, West Plains improves to 16-5-2 on the season and advances to face Webb City in the District 5 Semifinals on Monday night at 7:00pm at Willard. Bolivar will take on Willard at 5:00pm in the other Semifinal.

District Schedule Back Up Plan

Here is the plan for Districts in case of bad weather. As of now, the schedule remains the same. This is only in case of bad weather, so everyone will know what the plan will be.

With the forecast of rain over the next couple of days — we want to have a revised plan laid out so each of the schools knows what to expect. If Friday’s game at 5:00 pm between Marshfield and Monett were to be rained out — they will play at 11:00 am on Saturday morning. If Saturday’s games were to be rained out or the soccer field is to wet to play on — those games will be moved to Monday, October 30th, beginning at 11:00 am. The semi-final games will be played on Wednesday, November 1st beginning at 5:00 pm and the finals will be played on Friday, November 3rd at 6:00 pm.

We will let you know if there are changes.
