The Zizzers traveled to Lebanon and came home with two victories. The Varsity won their match 2-0, scoring twice in the final 5 minutes. The JV boys also were victorious, edging Lebanon 1-0, with their goal coming on an indirect Free Kick after Lebanon was called for a pass back to the Keeper.
In the Varsity match, West Plains outshot Lebanon, but appeared headed for overtime 0-0. The Zizzers’ best scoring chance came in the second half, when Justin Scicluna headed a corner kick toward the goal. Yellowjacket Goalkeeper Matthew Gow mad a great diving stop to keep the match scoreless.
The Zizzers finally hit the back of the net in the 75th minute. Stuart Ziegler took a ball down the right side and cross it to the back post where Michael Harrington headed it in for a 1-0 lead. The lead looked like it might be short lived though. As Lebanon brought the ball downfield, a Zizzer Back fouled on the left side about 25 yards from goal. The West Plains defense held though and shortly after that the Zizzers added an insurance goal.
In the 78th minute, Justin Scicluna dribbled 20 yards into the left side of the 18 yard box and put one in from 10 yards out to finish the scoring. With the win, the Zizzers improve to 3-0-1 Overall and 2-0-0 in the Ozark Conference. Lebanon falls to 1-2-0 and 0-2-0 in the Ozark Conference.
The West Plains JV showed much improvement over last week’s 3-1 Loss to Camdenton. The team moved the ball better and did a better job of playing together on Defense. The Zizzer Goal was scored by Josh Sims. Lebanon was called for a pass back to the goalkeeper in the 10th minute. David Mills touched the ball to Josh Sims who fired the ball over the wall into the left side of the net from about 12 yards out. The JV record is now 1-1-0. Congrats Coach Plocher on your first coaching victory and Good Job Boys, keep up the hard work.
Next up for the Varsity is the Rolla Tournament Friday and Saturday. Friday we play Rolla at 4:00pm. Saturday we play Dixon at 10:45am and Jackson at 1:00pm. The next JV match will be Tuesday when both squads travel to Waynesville.
