Zizzers Beat Nixa 2-0

Originally uploaded by Zizzer Soccer.

Thursday night the West Plains Zizzer Soccer Teams traveled to Nixa and both the JV and Varsity came home with 2-0 victories. In the Varsity match, the Zizzers didn’t get on the board until late in the game despite some good chances early including Justi Scicluna’s blast off the crossbar.

Finally in the 70th minute, the Eagles were called for a foul in the box. On the ensuing penalty kick, Justin Scicluna’s shot was just off the fingertips of the Nixa keeper and in for a 1-0 Zizzer lead. Four minutes later, Chris Saner’s pass found an onrushing Stuart Ziegler who buried his shot from about 14 yards out. 2-0 Zizzers. That’s how this one would end. The Zizzers improve to 12-1-2 on the season.

In the JV match, Dalton Gleghorn scored a pair of goals for the Zizzers. The first goal coming in the 11th minute on an assist from David Mills. That lead would stand until the 56th minute, when Gleghorn found the net again. This time he was assisted by Anthony Holt. Some good saves by Landon Perry and the defense preserved the shutout. Th JV improves to 3-4-0 on the season.

Next up for both squads are matches Tuesday at Parkview. The Varsity match will start at 4:00pm with the JV match to follow.

Support The MSU Bears

Missouri State Bears vs Central Arkansas Bears

Originally uploaded by SGFsoccer.com.

The Missouri State Bears have a Big Game coming up Wednes October 4 (I know it is a busy week - We have games Tue, Thur, and Sat) against the Creighton Bluejays. They are offering a big special on tickets and sky boxes for the match played at Plaster Sports Complex on the MSU Campus.

This is a chance to see two quality teams face off and support some local players of interest including our own Nick Dryden (Did you see him at our match against Central?) (By the way, Nick got in near the end of last night’s MSU 1-0 Loss to St. Louis University).

The Bears are offering 50 adult tickets for $50, you can’t beat that deal.

For more info, call the MSU Soccer Office at (417) 836-5243.

(Other locals of note for the Bears include: Justin Alford - Poplar Bluff, Michael Gow - Lebanon, and Michael Bennett - Kickapoo)

Zizzers and Falcons Tie 1-1

Originally uploaded by Zizzer Soccer.

In a battle of State Ranked Teams (Glendale Class 3 #15 - West Plains Class 2 #10) 100 minutes couldn’t decide a winner. Glendale came out flying in the first half putting a lot of pressure on the Zizzers, but weren’t able to put anything in the goal. In the last 15 minutes of the half, the Zizzers seemed to settle down a bit and were able to create some chances in front of the goal, but couldn’t finish them. The game reached halftime 0-0.

The Zizzers took the kickoff and the second pass was too far for the on rushing Justin Scicluna, but it got past the Falcons sweeper. Scicluna raced in and was one on one with the keeper. Scicluna touched the ball past the Falcons Stephen Conner for a 1-0 Zizzer lead 10 seconds into the half. The score would stay that way until the 68th minute. The Falcons got the equalizer on a corner kick. The ball went into the middle and then bounced free to Andy sawyer who buried the ball in the back of the net. 1-1.

The End of Regulation Time saw the score still 1-1. Twenty more minutes of overtime ended without another goal. With the tie Glendale’s record moves to 6-0-3 and 3-0-1 in the Ozark Conference. West Plains’ record is now 11-1-2 and 3-1-1 in the Ozark Conference.

In JV action, West Plains held the Falcons scoreless until the 31st minute. An own goal gave Glendale a 1-0 lead. Glendale would strike again before half for a 2-0 lead. The Falcons would add 4 second half goals to win 6-0. The JV record now stands at 2-4-0. Next up are games at Nixa on Thursday. JV first at 5:00pm

Fun Stuff

One of the fun things that goes with this site is looking at the Statistics. I try not to do it too often because I have other things I really need to do, but I have been checking them today. The one I like best is the GeoLocation Statistic. It tells what city people are checking our site from. Many of the locations are to be expected, but some are not. Below are all the places that are listed where people have checked us out in the last week and a half or so.

England - London

Malta - Naxxar

Australia - Brisbane, Seaton

Wyoming - Cheyenne

Wisconsin - Madison

Pennsylvania - Mifflinville

Louisiana - Lafayette

Maryland - Baltimore

Oklahoma - Oklahoma City

Iowa - Iowa City

New Jersey - Newark, Nutley

New York - Rochester, Mineola

California - Ridgecrest, Sacramento

Colorado - Colorado Springs, Denver

Nebraska - Columbus, Lincoln, Polk

Arizona - Mesa

Arkansas - Cherokee Village, Harrison, Jacksonville, Lake City

Texas - Dallas, San Marcos

Ohio - Canton, Columbus

Kansas - Basehor, Bucyrus, Kansas City, Olathe,Overland Park

Illinois - Belleville, Chicago, Illiopolis, O’Fallon, Peoria

Missouri - Duenweg, Nixa, Stoutland, St.Robert, Branson, Highlandville, Aurora, Bois D’arc, Chesterfield, Harrisonville, Cassville, Lake Ozark, Kansas City, Cole Camp, Independence, Bates City, Dora, Jackson, Cuba, Granby, Squires, Jerome, Wasola, Stotts City, High Hill, Ozark, Brixey, Halltown, Oldfield, Warrensburg, Chadwick, Thornfield, O’Fallon, Neosho, Republic, New Bloomfield, Bruner, Lebanon, Ft. Leonard Wood, Bolivar, Spokane, Jefferson City, Mokane, Joplin, Carthage, Zanoni, Waynesville, Lohman, Monett, Garrison, Rolla, St. Louis, McClurg, West Plains, Columbia, Peace Valley, Springfield
